The Sharp Reading Programme

The Sharp Reading Programme

A comprehensive and systematic approach to teaching writing designed to help pupils improve their standard of writing

What is The Sharp Reading Programme?

Sharp Reading is a reading program designed to help improve reading comprehension and allow the development of reading fluency. This evidence-based program is a comprehensive program designed for students with ADHD and Dyslexia who can decode a simple paragraph, enabling struggling readers to develop comprehension skills, alongside of fully trained reading tutor.

LALI Services has a range of engaging reading materials that target the child’s exact ability level. Your reading tutor will ascertain, through comprehensive reading assessment  a baseline for targeted intervention. Some materials include Paired Passages, containing a fiction and a non-fiction text linking the same topic, developing a deeper understanding of this subject. These texts are accompanied by comprehension questions, and a written component explicitly supported and scaffolded by a Professional Reading Tutor.

ADHD Students who engage in Sharp Reading develop higher-order thinking skills, being able to engage in more complex texts and eventually develop critical thinking skills, an essential foundational skill required for successful learners. These skills go beyond the page and improve the child’s life skills, giving them a deeper understanding of everyday conversations and social skills.

Sharp Reading is easy for a professional reading tutor to implement and offers structured home reading practice, helping students with ADHD to develop a deeper connection with the written content. This improves engagement in the classroom, improving grades. LALI’s professional tutors have extensive training and are highly skilled in delivering this program that effectively supports ADHD students’ learning.
