Sounds-Write Phonics Programme

Sounds-Write Phonics

An interactive learning programme to help kids with Specific Learning Disorders, such as, Dyslexia.

What is Sounds-Write Phonics

Sounds-Write is an innovative program designed to equip children with the skills necessary for reading, spelling, and writing, and is highly beneficial for students with Specific Learning Disorders, such as, Dyslexia. It is based on recent research and has been used successfully to teach reading, spelling and writing. The program can be utilised with students of all ages as it offers a wealth of techniques, activities, and interactive materials to help students gain confidence in their writing abilities.

It is an evidence-based approach to teaching reading and spelling which has grown out of a body of research that emphasises teaching synthetic phonics, a way of using letter-sound knowledge to construct words. The study shows that using synthetic phonics in the initial stages of reading instruction is the most effective way to teach skills to young children. By giving them access to these tools and techniques early in their educational experience, learners are encouraged to continue developing their fluency with text as they grow older.

This instructional approach utilised by your spelling tutor to teach dyslexic children to read and spell is a unique combined system that integrates multiple different educational techniques. The course emphasises the importance of learning the smallest sounds in words (phonemes), to read and spell words. This approach teaches small "bites" of information - or increments, and is a highly effective teaching method that brings results.

Another essential skill your spelling tutor will develop is the ability to recognise how specific symbols, form letters that represent sounds. Once they have achieved this skill, students gradually become comfortable with reading and spelling words. Together these methods create more significant opportunities for students to understand and memorise essential literacy skills need for reading and writing activities.

The sounds-write phonics programme offers a clear, structured, and systematic approach to teaching phonics. This approach is proven to be the most effective way for learners to gain a deep understanding of words and how to spell them correctly.

The Sounds-Write programme enables the learner to overcome standard pronunciation and spelling issues that children with dyslexia often present with. Structured practice offer by your spelling tutor, develops automaticity, words then becoming second nature for students in the early reading stages. The consistent application of this approach establishes the base for successful reading, alongside the use of Sounds-Write and Dandelion decodable books which ultimately encourages a higher level of reading accuracy. This gives the student the opportunity to practise learned graphemes (written representation of letters) in context.
